I caught 5 tiny fish today. Here are two of the little bastards. It was fun despite the lack of lunkers!

Fishing at Lake Hattie. I caught a big-ass hunk of sheet metal but I didn’t get a picture of it so it didn’t count. Ah well.
Also there are all sorts of neat quartz and granite and rocky delights on the shore.

Pretty much! Though this stops no one from wearing flip flops and sundresses when it gets over 45 degrees. Haha.
I’m glad I wore my flippie floppies yesterday before that giant storm of doom hits this weekend.

Another story from my youth.
I just watched The Grey, and one scene reminded me of something that happened to me back in high school.
It was around this time of year when I was a senior. 3 of my girl friends and 1 suitor of a girl (lol) and I went for a walk at the local park. There is a sweet trail system around the river in our hometown, and it is walkable even in the winter. We had a nice walk on the trails, despite the chilly weather. One of my friends decided to go closer to the river, off-trail, for a more exciting walk, and everyone decided to go along with it. Or some shit. Haha. This made me nervous, so I walked slower than the other 4 kids. I was a bit behind everyone and seriously contemplating going back to the trail, but I didn’t want to be separated. There were MOOSE in this park!
The river was mostly frozen over. The only exposed water was on the other side of the shore from us. Still, we were walking over snow without bushes peeking through, which seemed awful to me. I kept going though, as the others in front of me had no trouble and I didn’t hear any cracking or water sounds.
The next moment happened very quickly and all I remember is hearing a very loud CRACK and then feeling the ice against my chest. I fell the fuck in! The next feeling I had was how intense the pull of the river was against my lower half. I figured it would be calmer since it was winter and frozen over. Nope. Before I could wrap my mind around that, the cold water numbed my legs and feet yet I still felt daggers of fierce pain any time I tried to move. It was so cold it took my breath away. I couldn’t scream for help if I wanted to. Someone ahead must have heard the crack because moments later everyone came back and saw me in the ice. I remember one of my friends freaked the fuck out. I knew to keep my arms up, and not lose position on that hunk of ice.
The dude and one girl tried to pull me out, but the current was so strong that it was very difficult. And I was so numb it was hard to kick my legs, or move at all. I told everyone to wait a second, let me push myself up with my arms as much as I could, then pull me out. That worked. Holy shit. I thought I was going to die in the Bear River that day, but I survived! I laid like a beached whale on the shore for a bit, haha, waiting for my legs to work again. So we walked back to my friend’s car, not even a mile away, but it was still cold and I was soaked from the chest down. We get to her car and she lost her keys. She lost her keys somewhere along our walk.
Haha. She ran back to find them on the trail. It was some serious salt in my falling-in-the-river wound. I was very unamused.
The really bizarre part of the story is that a distant relative of mine rode the Pony Express and did indeed die in the Bear River about 30 miles away from where I fell in. So, hum on my nuts, river!
Thanks fer readin’.
